It was solid with tons of info, but what I realized is only a very small percentage of subscribers every really used the information in the book. I believe there are numerous reasons for this, but whatever the reason, I decided then and there, that I was going to do something different to guarantee my customers' successes.

The truth is, there is much more involved in attaining top rankings for a site than most people initially realize. They've been told they just need to put up a site, add the right meta tags, and they'll get the #1 spot. Unfortunately, most people don't realize this until after they have invested large sums of money in their site.

Sound familiar? I've heard this same story time and time again for almost a decade now. The three most common endings to the story are:

1) Webmaster gives up and closes up the site. Losing whatever money was invested.

This ending truly saddens me. There is a world of possibilities out there. With a bit of guidance and teaching, it's not hard to get a site to the top for all but the most competitive terms (and even these are possible with enough time and effort).

2) Webmaster hires an SEO firm at the promise of top rankings.

This is a smart way to go, and if the world were full of honest people, it would generally end up much better. The fact is there are a lot of fly-by-night operations that pray on the hopes and dreams of people. They will promise you the moon, but you will often get nothing but a lighter wallet.

Don't get me wrong...there are some stellar SEO firms out there, but unfortunately, the truly good ones are very expensive. This is because if they are that good, they can generally make more money working for themselves than someone else.

Often, the ones that are affordable, are the exact ones you want to stay away from!

What makes matters worse is that the webmaster likely won't have enough knowledge about SEO to know what questions to ask the potential SEO firm to insure they are a quality firm.

3) Webmaster decides he/she needs to learn SEO.

I respect these people and it's what I did way back when. The problem is back when I got involved, the learning curve was not nearly as steep. Today, to really get up to speed and grasp things, it's going to be a LOT of work and take quite a while. During this time of learning, you are losing potential business to your competitors.

There are also potential problems in doing it yourself. There is a LOT of outdated and downright incorrect information available online. Take the wrong piece of advice and you could irreparably harm your online business. Without knowing SEO, you don't know if the information you are using is correct or not.
